Free Virus Checking

My viruscheck.exe program is not a virus, but a tool designed to determine if an antivirus product is installed properly and running live while your computer is on. This is a small .com file by the name of EICAR.COM (European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research). It is being used to test the effectiveness and operability of on access and/or on demand scanning of an antivirus product.

Click to Download the program.
This program is written in C++, but for security reason you need to run it at the command (DOS) prompt.

Your anti-virus software should stop this program from writing a test virus file called EICAR.COM on your disk. This viruscheck.exe is created by Mike Toloo for you to use it as a test program. Mike Toloo takes no responsibility for any misuse, damage or loss.

The EICAR.COM test file contains the following cahracters:
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

* If you like copy the coding on the above line and using Notepad, paste it in a new document. Then try to save it on your disk. You'll see what happens. *
